Rishikesh is a year-round destination, but each season offers a different experience. Here's our month-by-month guide to help you plan the perfect trip.
September – November (Post-Monsoon)
The landscape is lush and green after the rains. The Ganga flows strong with exciting rapids — this is the best time for rafting. Temperatures range from 15-30°C. The International Yoga Festival preparations begin in October.
December – February (Winter)
Cool, crisp mornings with temperatures dropping to 5-10°C. Perfect for yoga retreats and meditation. The town is quieter, making it ideal for those seeking solitude. Early morning fog over the Ganga creates magical moments.
March – May (Spring/Summer)
Warm and pleasant with temperatures between 20-35°C. All adventure activities are in full swing — rafting, bungee jumping, trekking. This is peak tourist season, so book accommodation well in advance.
June (Pre-Monsoon)
Hot but manageable. Some rafting operators wind down for the season. Good deals on accommodation. The Ganga begins to swell in anticipation of the monsoon.
July – August (Monsoon)
Heavy rainfall transforms the region into an emerald paradise. Rafting is closed. Roads can be tricky. However, if you enjoy rain and want a meditative experience, the ashrams offer profound retreats during this period.
Our Recommendation
For the best all-round experience, visit between October and March. You'll get pleasant weather, all activities available, and the spiritual energy of the town is at its peak. The Ganga Story offers special packages during these months.
